Grout
Grout is applied after the tile is laid down on its bed of mortar. The grout is squeezed into the spaces with a tile float, and then wiped clean away with the same tile float and with a wet sponge.
Thinset
Thinset mortar is a blend of cement, very finely graded sand, and a water retention compound that allows the cement to properly hydrate. Tile set by the thinset method is adhered to the substrate with a thin layer of "thinset" cement.
